The women of Saudi Arabia have warned Hollywood actresses that wearing black designer dresses to award shows may not be the quick-fix to sexism that they’re hoping for.

“We’ve been wearing black for centuries and if anything it’s been more of a hindrance than a help,” explained one Saudi woman, referring to the recent trend of actresses attending award ceremonies in black attire to signal solidarity with women in less privileged positions.

“The Time’s Up campaign actually dates back to the time when Allah created time and it’s been a long hard slog, I can tell you.”
