The UK has successfully processed the application of the seventh Syrian refugee to be accepted into the country, as Maysaa Al Shibli has been resettled in Birmingham.

Asked how Canada has managed to settle over 30,000 refugees in the same time period, a Home Office spokesman said that it is very difficult to check up on references for refugee applicants.

We only ask for two references – preferably a doctor or an accountant – and often, when we investigate, the house address given no longer exists or the person is dead.

The spokesman continued, “We also ask the refugees questions about the UK to see if they will fit in and it is disappointing how many of them can’t name all of the Beatles.
