In his retirement speech to his staff, Prince Philip has revealed that his eldest son, Prince Charles, was reduced from Gold to Silver in the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

“Tests have shown that he took performance-enhancing drugs when he attempted the programme in 1979,” said Prince Philip, “and that cannot be tolerated.

“Some people said he had already had an advantage by entering his own father’s competition, and I must admit I did let his butler carry his rucksack in the 20-mile hike, but taking drugs is just not acceptable.”

The Duke of Edinburgh also announced that he would be entering the Duke of Edinburgh award himself, now that he has more spare time on his hands.
