Nigel Farage has welcomed the sacking of Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri, claiming that it is “entirely within the spirit of Brexit”.

“He is a European man who was holding a job that should be taken by a UK worker,” said the former UKIP leader.

“It is true that he had some surprising success in 2016, but that could happen to any one person or political party.

“I fully expect the patriotic owners of Leicester City to appoint a UK manager now.”

A spokesman for King Power, the Thai owners of Leicester, said, “We will seriously consider appointing a UK manager or anybody who will bring some very short-term results.”
