Donald Trump has met Pope Francis at the Vatican on the third leg of his overseas trip and promised he will achieve both peace in the Middle East and a cure for cancer.

When discussing his plans for the rest of 2017, the President confirmed that he will sort out the Israel and Palestine peace problem by the end of the month and have a cure for cancer by the end of the year.

“Melania and I also plan to catch a few rays at Mar-a-Lago on the weekends.”

Trump had intended to give the Pope a boxed set of writings by the black civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. as a gift but instead gave him the autobiography of boxing promoter Don King.

Not known for his love of fighting, the Pope seemed surprised but politely thanked the President.

Trump reiterated his view that he and the pontiff will get on really well.

“The Pope is a humble man, very much like me.”
