The people of Cornwall reacted in horror when they realized that they won’t be getting any EU grant subsidies once the UK leaves the EU.

Over 56% of the Cornish voters opted to leave in last year’s referendum.

Ben Penhaligon was one of them.

“I had no idea that all the EU money we have been getting over the last 10 years would suddenly stop if we voted to leave the EU. No one told us that. We just thought it would keep being paid.”

European money has helped develop infrastructure, universities and broadband internet in Cornwall.

“The Eden Project got loads of money from the EU,” said Peter Pendennis.

“Why shouldn’t we keep on getting it? Cornwall deserves it.”

Asked why they had voted to leave the EU, both Ben and Peter said, “To take back control.”
