Rio Ferdinand is beginning his professional boxing career at 38 and has turned to veteran boxer Conor McGregor to teach him the ropes.

Ferdinand, who will almost certainly fight either Chris Eubank or Frank Bruno in his first bout, wanted the best there ever was to teach him and personally handpicked McGregor.

Betfair, who came up with the idea on Ferdinand’s behalf, were excited at the pairing.

“We just know that Rio and Conor will be great together,” said a Betfair spokesman.

“Conor has already made us a lot of money and Rio will too, when he loses to whoever he is fighting in the 9th round.”
