UK explorer Benedict Allen has been seen “alive and well” near an airstrip in Papua New Guinea, after no one knew that he was missing.
He hadn’t posted on Facebook for nearly 24 hours and friends and family were worried.
He had been trying to make contact with the reclusive Yaifo tribe who he first met some 30 years ago and had sent a Christmas card to every year since, and they hadn’t responded.
“It’s almost as if they don’t want to meet up with me,” said Mr Allen before he left the UK.
“The Yaifo tribe live in the remotest part of Papua New Guinea and are one of the last people on the entire planet who are out-of-contact with our interconnected world.
“I want to give them the chance to join the social media generation. It’s a basic human right.”
