Tim Farron has left his position as leader of the Liberal Democrat Party so that he can concentrate on his side project as an Elton John tribute act.
Farron made the announcement dressed in the singer’s stage outfit from the ’70s, complete with gigantic sunglasses and feathered wings.
“From the very first day of my leadership, I have faced questions about my passion project as an Elton John tribute act. I’ve tried to answer with grace and patience. Sometimes my answers could have been wiser,” said Farron.
“To be a political leader – especially of a progressive, liberal party in 2017 – and to work as an Elton John impersonator has felt impossible for me.”
Farron will be playing the weekday afternoon set at Vauxhall’s Eagle London for the rest of the summer and hopes to be the support act at Brighton Pride 2017.
