Theresa May visited Copeland yesterday and was amazed to find out that the Cumbrian constituency was in England.
“I always thought Cumbria was in Scotland,” said the Prime Minister.
“It is hundreds of miles north of Maidenhead and it took us ages to get there. We had to change trains four times.
“When we eventually got there, I said ‘I’m glad to see you are all just about Copeland’. I made that up on the train and all my staff thought it was hilarious.”
In an effort to avoid talking about next week’s by-election, Theresa May concentrated on the 2025 general election by visiting a primary school.
“I could only stay for five minutes as I had to catch the last train home to Westminster.”
