Queen Elizabeth II wants to get rid of the Commonwealth as it is “out of date”, according to a source close to the BBC’s political editor.
“Apparently at a private lunch she said, ‘I don’t see why we can’t just disband it. What’s the problem?’“ gushed Kuenssberg.
“My source, who, by the way, definitely wasn’t Michael Gove hiding under the table, assured me that it was true. My jaw hit the floor.”
A spokesman for The Sun newspaper said it was “absolutely outrageous” that comments made by the Queen in a private conversation should be taken out of context.
