Nigel Farage has responded to Lord Tebbit’s recent speech about Brexit in the House of Lords by calling him a “xenophobic bigot”.
“How dare he call my wife a foreigner? It’s not her fault she was born in Germany. She has lived in the UK for many years and always supports England in Test matches,” said the former UKIP leader.
Norman Tebbit provoked anger in the House of Lords when he accused peers of “thinking of nothing but the rights of foreigners”.
“My wife likes drinking tea and doesn’t mind queuing; in fact, she enjoys it,” said Farage.
“Kirsten is as English as the next person. If Brexit is going to attract xenophobic bigots like Lord Tebbit, I might have to rethink the whole thing. Perhaps we should have another referendum?”
Tebbit’s nickname used to be the Chingford Skinhead when he was Margaret Thatcher’s attack dog in the 1980s.
He was reported to have a sign outside his house saying ‘Chingford: Twinned With Nowhere’.
