Michael Gove has reacted furiously at losing out on the 2016 Turner Prize, having nominated his own face for the judges’ consideration.
The one time Cabinet minister who quit government earlier this year to pursue a career in art explained why he decided to nominate his own face for the prestigious art award.
“I’ve been told by many people, even complete strangers, that they find my face to be strangely evocative and stirring of strong emotions deep within.”
Despite not being shortlisted on the night, Gove installed himself at the Tate Modern in a last-ditch attempt to garner the attention of the judges.
The award was eventually granted to Helen Marten, who was magnanimous in victory, drawing on themes of tolerance and respect in her acceptance speech.
Asked what she thought of Gove’s face, Marten replied, “Fuckin’ shite.”
