It has been revealed that Boris Johnson and Michael Gove are in a private race to try and get sacked from the Cabinet, with the loser having to buy the winner lunch.
Michael Gove said on the Andrew Marr Show that he didn’t know what Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was doing in Iran when she was arrested in 2016.
This was in spite of Boris Johnson saying in Parliament that the Government knew she was on holiday.
Last week, the Foreign Secretary was criticised for initially saying Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who has been jailed in Iran, had been training journalists there.
“Just when you think that Boris Johnson has reached the depths of incompetence, Michael Gove manages to trump him,” said a colleague of both politicians.
“They even sent a private letter to Theresa May with their Brexit demands and then leaked it to the press.
“The reason is that they are both desperate to be sacked. They want to be free to criticise the Brexit fiasco as it unfolds.
“They have a private bet on. Whoever gets sacked last has to buy the other one lunch at the Ritz.”
