Thousands of Jeremy Corbyn’s followers were disappointed yesterday when the UK Charity Commission ruled that Corbynism isn’t actually a religion.
The Commission rejected an application to grant charitable status to the movement, saying that it did not have the “cogency, cohesion, or seriousness” to truly be a belief system.
“While recognizing the sincerely held views of his supporters, we do not accept that JC is the new Messiah.”
The Commission stated that to be classed as a religion it must also have a positive beneficial impact on society in general and raised concerns that Corbynism may, in part, have an “inward focus” on its members.
Corbynism recently overtook Jediism as the fifth most popular ideology in the UK.
